Black and White Composition

Sketches:

Our assignment in DS120 presented a unique challenge-to create a composition with three-dimensional depth on a two-dimensional paper. This task required us to explore depth and visual interests and pushed us to think creatively about how to represent depth on a flat surface.

My chosen subject was a perception travel case. I was drawn to its roundness and sleek look, which I felt would lend itself well to the challenge of creating depth on a flat surface. I began by sketching the object from various angles, and then I decided to abstract certain key elements. With its unique shape and function, the opening button became my main source of inspiration, and its pointed ends are a recurring motif in my composition.
